There are some pretty mixed Specialty Merchandise Corporation reviews out there, so if you’re thinking about joining read this first.

If you’ve been looking around for information on Specialty Merchandise Corporation you may have run across their sign up page which looks like this.
Specialty Merchandise Corporation
There’s very little information on this page and the main take aways seem to be that you get a free information package, that SMC is going to help you make money, and if you read the script on the left that the free packet it’s clear that what you’ll be getting is a description of their ten best products. That’s it, are you ready to sign up? I know I wouldn’t be, not from that unless perhaps I had a recommendation from a trusted friend.

There is plenty more information to be had though, you just have to dig a little bit for it. In fact, SMC makes quite a bit of information available. Even from the links below the sales page you can learn that this is a paid membership program. The fees seem to vary but you can start as a sub-wholesaler for $24.95. There’s an annual renewal fee which their membership agreement states is currently $44.95. If you get your membership terminated for any reason and want it reinstated it will be $69.95.

What Specialty Merchandise Corporation really is, is a wholesaler of a broad range of products. Now the reality is that there are many other ways to sell products than joining a membership program. This isn’t a bad way it just isn’t the only way. That said it may be worth it if you are just beginning to look at selling products. How will you know for sure if it is worth it? Order their free kit, see if their products are products that you could sell and get a feel for what you could charge in your area. How much would you have to sell to break even? Can you do this?
Think about your network of friends, family and associates, since these are likely to be some of your first customers ask yourself if SMC is offering products that they would be interested in.
If you don’t think you could sell enough merchandise from Specialty Merchandise Corporation to make back your investment in a matter of 6 months - I’d say forget it.

Advantages
of this program are:
A marketing coach for 90 days
Ease of ordering products
Drop shipping so you don’t have to hold inventory
A program that has been around a long time
A wide assortment of products from one distributor

Disadvantages:
Membership fees
Additional Costs
Some people seem to be confused about which fees are necessary and which are optional

Of course you will want to do your due diligence.
1. Ask for the 30 day money back guarantee in writing.
2. If you plan to market online ask how much it cost to have them set up a website and if you can set your own up.
3. Ask how much of the money they keep under the 30 money back guarantee.
4. Ask to speak with at least 3 people who are in the program, then ask those people for the programs weaknesses.
5. Probably should have been number one, but determine your market - who will you sell to and how do you know they’ll buy.

There’s no doubt that there are people making money working with Specialty Merchandise Corporation. The real question is whether or not the program is right for you. To
