Photostamps – Marketing via Postage Stamps

File this under zany marketing ideas if you like, but I just had this marketing brainstorm that I’ll be trying out in the future.

Photostamp PicturestampYou may already be aware of photostamps. These are US postage approved stamps that you create with your own photography/imagery but that work just like real stamps for mailing letters and post cards.

One of the things that we online marketers repeatedly forget is the value of offline marketing for our online efforts. But, these efforts can pay off big time. The trick is finding cost effective marketing techniques to get the word out.

For years I’ve been including my website address in the signature line of my emails. I am always pleasantly surprised to find out how many people have gotten here from that effort. So now I am wondering how many people would come if they just saw my personalized stamp. Considering that I can write off both the cost of postage and/or the cost of marketing as a business expense the additional cost of a personalized photostamp pretty quickly comes back into line with the cost of a normal stamp.

To this end I went out and tried out a bunch of the sites that offer this service. The one I finally settled on appealed to me because it was easy to use, reasonably priced and I didn’t have to wade through a flash intro or  evil “Enter” page, both of which I hate as big time wasters.

I liked this version enough that I decided to apply for their affiliate program so if you interested in trying this out simply click on this banner:

Then upload an image, preferably one of your logo, website, or theme with the url written across the bottom.  Now I personally am choosing the horizontal stamp versus the vertical  stamp because it allows me to get the url along the bottom.

FWIW, I think there will also be a few folks getting these as birthday and Christmas presents just because they would make fun gifts and stocking stuffers.  Yeah I know, I start thinking about these things early, but I hate last minute shopping when I could be shopping all the time ;-)
