30 Days to Financial Freedom?

Posted by Molly on Thursday, July 26, 2007

What if thirty days could start you down the road to financial freedom? Would you be interested? Of course everyone’s definition of financial freedom is a little different, but what I am talking about when I use the term is the freedom to choose when, where and how you make your living.

A little intelligence and some self-discipline

Today anyone with a little intelligence and some self-discipline can make money online. Notice that I didn’t say “anyone with a little money to invest”, because the fact is you can make money online without spending one dime. I also didn’t say “anyone with a little know how” because there are experts who are willing to teach you how to do this for free. I know it sounds too good to be true and I am the one always saying that if it sounds too good to be true than it probably is, so what gives?

Experts willing to teach for free

I recently stumbled across some experts who will give you step-by-step instructions on how to spend no money, and yet start making money online and they want nothing in return for it.

Jennifer Laycock: A Mompreteneur

One of them, Jennifer Laycock, has put this in the form of a free ebook Zero Dollars, A Little Talent and Thirty Days which you can download from the link. In this 143 page ebook Jennifer writes about her experience launching The Lactivist CafePress Shop .

This is a bit of a side note, but in case you’re not aware of CafePress.com here’s what it does.

  1. Allows you to set up an online shop on their site for free
  2. Makes items like t-shirts, hats, mugs etc. with the slogans you come up with
  3. Deals with all the payments
  4. Takes care of all shipping, returns and exchanges
  5. Provides customer service via phone for your customers
  6. Keeps track of your earnings and sends you a monthly check for your sales.

Of course, the problem is that just setting up the shop gets you online, but now what. Too many people do these things without the understanding that being online means nothing without traffic. That’s where Jennifer’s book is gold. And let me just say that I lover her title for Day 4, Life as a Mompreteneur, Blogging, AdSense and the First Sale!

The 30 Day Challenge

Ed Dale, Nicolas Messe and Dan Raine are putting on the Thirty Day Challenge. So what is the 30 Day Challenge?

In a nutshell… The Thirty Day Challenge is about making your first $10 online. For a full 30 days we are going to be showing you exactly how to start your own Internet business and generate your first income online without spending a dime.

That’s what Ed Dale et. al say about the Thirty Day Challenge. In this video a woman who took place in the challenge last year interviews a few folks she’s recruited to take place in the challenge about why they want to take part. The real juice comes about half way through (just fast forward to minute 2:32) when they turn the camera on her and interview her about the challenge. When your done watching just close the window and you should be returned here. See you in a couple of minutes.

Now to be honest, I’ve been through something like this before, though not Ed Dales. In that one I did have to pay $1.00 for the 30 day course and I had to pay purchase a url so the whole thing cost me $10.00, but it was a little disappointing in that it got you about 97% of the way there and then stopped short. Only it didn’t stop because for just $97.00 per month you could continue on. There was no pressure to do so it was just an option. And while I don’t like those kind of tactics, I have to say the information I gleaned during that course was worth the 100 times that $1.00 investment.

That’s why I have no fear in suggesting to you, that you take a couple of hours every day during August and follow along with Ed, Nicolas and Dan and learn how to make your first $10.00 online. In fact I am so sure that it is going to be worthwhile, that I have already signed up.

If you still want some more insight into what this will be all about and how it will work you might want to have a look at this Squidoo lens. It has the history of the challenge which started in 2005, it also has a little mp3 file that you can listen to which though it may have been from 2005 and though a lot may have changed you know this step of brainstorming areas of interest (niches) has to be a part of it. I am also guessing that Squidoo itself, and probably HubPages will figure prominently into this since, like CafePress, they both allow you to set up accounts and pages on their sites to make money online without paying anything. I have a few more ideas of the techniques that they may employee in the 30 Day Challenge, but I suspect there’s a lot more that I don’t know. In fact one of the most exciting things about this is that they intend to use a lot of the newer web 2.0 tools and sites to help us make $10.00 in thirty days.
