A lot of women wish, as they take their child to day care in order to go to work, that they could make a decent living working from their own home and spending time with their children. But you probably notice that the one or two work at home moms you do know have husbands who make a good income… or are already financially set.
But what you probably don’t know is that you can make a good living working at home - you can pay your bills, give your children the life they deserve, and be able to create real quality memories from the time that you’re home. Memories that will stick with you your entire lifetime…
But that’s not the only advantage to working at home!
What’s ‘In It’ For You by Working At Home
Office Politics are some of the most annoying things that you ever have to deal with. When you consider how much you have to go through to get that promotion that, in the end, is it all that satisfying? Does it make it sweeter?
Working at your own home, you’re able to do the work that makes you happy, and your income is equal to your work, not your ability to please your boss or make friends.
Getting Up and Dressed is the main reason that people hate going to work, especially if they have to get up early in the morning. Many refer to them as “monkey clothes”, or “silly clothes” - and it’s a hassle to get dressed and ready each and every day just to go and do your job. Working from home, you can hop into a pair of comfortable denims and a soft tee shirt and get to work. No need to impress, or spend hundreds new, work friendly clothes!
A Commute to Work is always a hassle - working from home saves you money on the rising gas prices, and you don’t have to sit in the car. This saves you time, and a lot of stress.
Working From The Comfort Of Your Home can make it a lot easier to work - and the freedom you have means you don’t have always do it in your house. Snag a laptop, and a cell phone, and you can pack up your children and head to an internet café, or even a park. You have the comfort from working anywhere you’d like!
Flexibility in your schedule can lead to incredible things - from spur of the moment trips and vacations, to spending time in your child’s classroom, and much more. Having the flexibility to be able to do what you want, when you want, and still make a living is something so fulfilling, you have to experience it to believe it. Living your life the way you want, and spending time with your family… the first step is working from your own home.
What are the Basic Skills I Need to Work at Home?
Working from your own home does take skill - just like raising a child does, actually. While you acquire most of it as you go on, and it’s largely a learning experience, there are things you need to know and skills you should have going in, or you’ll end up losing money and time.
Being Self Motivated is vital to a home business. If you’re not motivated and ready to go each and every morning, you’re not going to be able to get very far. Having the will power to sit down at your computer and work, especially when you know you have to, is so very important.
The skill to Ignore Distractions is also very important. After all, you’re at home… you probably could do a million things around the house, like dishes, putting in another load of laundry, or just plopping down and watching your Soap. Having the will power to ignore these distractions and work through them means you’ll be able to do a lot in your home business, and get quite far - without a doubt!
Having A Plan Laid Out and Following Through can help a great deal. Many businesses fail miserably because they simply don’t have a plan, so if you’re considering trying out working from home, formulate a plan. Research what you’re going to be doing, and know what’s going to happen going in. If you don’t, chances are you won’t make any money from it.
You can own your own home business, take care of your children, and build priceless memories while paying the bills. Don’t be afraid because of societal restrictions, or because you feel that working a 9-5 is something you ’should’ do. If this is going to make you truly happy, then you need to fight for it with all of your might. In the end, both you and your children will benefit from it.
“Make $1,000 a day from data entry jobs!”
“REAL data entry jobs - work only hours a day, make hundreds an hour!”
…You’ve read those ads, too? They claim that you can make hundreds upon hundreds a day by working just a few hours by entering data. It’s a nice thought, and we might day dream about it before we go to bed, or after we get a partially bad bill, but is it real? Continue Reading »
Organization; the bane of many. How can something that sounds so simply as organizing be so very difficult? And why do the majority of us get so frustrated when we attempt to organize a mess?
Well, unfortunately, there’s no ‘easy out’ for home business organization. But if you take small, simple steps and stick with them, it won’t be hard to keep up with the growing demand your home business has for organization.
File Folders are Everything
No matter how much of your work is done on the computer, chances are, you still have papers. From receipts to things you’ve printed out, clients information and more - we all have some hard copies of things laying around, after all.
Buying a small file cabinet is the answer! You can get a very cheap one from any office supply store, and a pack of files should start you off well. Keeping everything that you have in hard copies filed and out of the way keeps things flowing, and make sure you never have an overflow of papers you don’t know what to do with.
Keep Everything Not Related to Business Away
No matter if we’re talking about the files in your computer, office space, or something else entirely, remove everything that isn’t business related. It keeps things flowing smoothly, and anything personal can be a distraction. Avoid opening or downloading anything that has your personal interest on your business computer, and try to make a strict, ‘this-is-an-office’ rule when it comes to your home office.
Keep Track of your Time
Oftentimes, we miss an important phone call, meeting, or even TV show related to our business because we can’t keep track of our time to save our life! Use a calendar, either online (Like Yahoo! Calendar) or offline, depending on your level of tech savvy-ness, and always have a place for to-do lists and reminders.
Clean your Desk Each Evening
This may seem silly, but there’s nothing more motivating than sitting down to a clean desk in the morning. Each evening, make sure to sort what needs to be sorted, clean what needs to be cleaned, and leave that night with a clean, eye pleasing desk. You’ll find yourself more willing to get to work in the morning, and if you’re having a bad one, you’ll be a little less aggravated with it!
Get Rid of the Old
Have you used it in a year? Has it been hiding under that huge stack of papers, forgotten? Toss it!
Don’t keep pens, papers, or anything else that you haven’t used in six months to a year. There’s no reason, and it can eliminate used space, giving you a more open look. If you insist on keeping it, file it away, put it in a closet, or another room. Just keep it away from your work space!
Look at your Office Like a Kindergarten Classroom
Look at your office like it’s a child’s school room. Really! Make sure everything is for a purpose, and section off special ‘areas’. One area is going to be for most of your work - that’s the desk! Another area is filing, where your file cabinet goes, along with a chair for those long filing sessions. Another can be mailing, and another can be client contacts. Keeping things separate and clean can be the best ways to go about things.
Make Sure your Office Fits you
So, some of us work best when our walls are a gentle mocha color, with warm accents, colorful pictures on the wall, a decorative, stylish couch that’s inviting and comfortable, and our desk facing towards the window. Others work best when they have no distractions - back to the window, non distracting colors, and nothing on the walls.
Find what works for you, and run with it. If you find plants and pictures comforting, go for it; if they distract you, move them. Create a work environment that’s perfect for working, and if you find something that’s too distracting, force yourself to get it out of your work space. Even if you enjoy it!
Keep it Organized…
…and your business will be fruitful. Many failed businesses are unorganized, don’t know their direction, and can’t find it through the mess. Know who you are, what you’re doing, and where you can find it!
Working from home can have countless advantages. You spend more time with your family, there is more room for growth, you can have much more free time to pursue hobbies, and you can overall make more hard, cold cash. The downside to working from home is that it’s very easy to get discouraged if you don’t see immediate results, Continue Reading »
Every mother wants the chance to stay home and raise their children. Spending time with them when they’re young, helping influence their decisions and encourage them to make the right choice as they age, and seeing them off to college as they’re grown is something we all want, after all.
But the ‘real world’ has other ideas. Bills pile up, collectors come, and we’re forced to put our child in day care, or in the care of family members, as we go out to bring home the bacon and pay the bills.
But shouldn’t there be a better way? Continue Reading »
